What a height percentile means
Your height percentile tells you what share of people are shorter than you. If you are in the 70th percentile, you are taller than about 70% of adults of your sex and shorter than about 30%. The 50th percentile is right at the average.
How we calculate it
The calculator uses average heights for American adults from CDC national health survey data: about 175.4 cm (5′9″) for men and 161.7 cm (5′3.5″) for women. Adult height roughly follows a bell curve, so we use a normal distribution with a typical spread of about 7.6 cm for men and 7.1 cm for women.
That makes the result a good estimate, not an exact ranking. Real height data varies by age group, ethnicity and region, and averages in other countries can be quite different.

- Woman at 5′2″ (157 cm): taller than roughly 28% of American women.
